Happy 100 Entries!

Wow! I seriously cannot believe I have blogged 100 times here in Randomness Rocks! This is so unbelievable to me. Time has flown by! Is there an award for this?! Do I get to be a Blog of Note (BoN) now?

Acceptance Speech

First of all I would like to thank all my current fans and followers- without you or your support I'd be bored and far less random. I'd also like to thank the academy (ok just kidding). I'd like to thank my future readers and followers who aren't even reading this right now. I'd like to thank them because they will become an important reason why I keep blogging. I'd like to thank God for creating me and allowing me to share my randomosity with the world and for creating the people who made computers and software and the internet and blogging. Without all of you and them none of this would be possible. Thank you again! Here's to many many more! Have a great night!

How should I celebrate? What should entry 101 be about? Should I keep 101 as "21 Things Hiring Managers Wish You Knew (day 5)" or be random and do something different- something special? Will someone make me an award I can display on my blog please?

21 Things Hiring Managers Wish You Knew (day 4)

We'd like a thank-you note right away.

E-mail is fine for this and has the advantage of arriving faster, but handwritten notes are still appreciated (and are increasingly unusual so will stand out). And if there are multiple interviews, send a thank-you note each time.

Laptop Issues Continue

I'm stressed...my laptop worked ok yday not working 2day. Looked online; based on my problems i need new motherboard & ac adapter/power supply cord. DEBATING ON BUYING A NEW LAPTOP INSTEAD (been planning to anyway.. just around black friday/christmas time)... I will still try to blog daily but it's far easier w. my laptop. I share the pc so that makes it more difficult to do what i want when I want.

just bought on ebay motherboard and new adapter for under $80... far cheaper than a new laptop..easier on the wallet when one is unemployed. Got them on ebay and from the same seller which is great cos it means I save on shipping and they will arrive at the same time! :) Should arrive in a couple of days and I can't wait. PC is driving me nuts haha. I miss using firefox. Dad did install google toolbar for me which makes things easier and me more productive, but still I miss my laptop. Michael (my older brother who worked with computers) said he'll install my motherboard for me the day we get it! Yey! XD Hopefully that will help with my camera/ picture uploading issues too. Also ordered a USB card reader so that oughta help for sure! I wanna get the pictures up for the cookie recipe! haha

We pay attention to the small stuff.

Frequently, I see candidates act as if only “official” contacts—like interviews and formal writing samples—count during the hiring process. They’ll send flawless cover letters and then check up on their applications with sloppily written E-mails with spelling errors. Or they’ll be charming and polite to me but rude to an assistant. I pay attention to how quickly a candidate responds to requests for writing samples and references, and even how fast he or she returns phone calls.

We actually want you to be honest.

I see too many job applicants who approach the interview as if their only goal is to win a job offer, losing sight of the fact that this can land them in the wrong job. Think of it like dating. This means being honest about your strengths and weaknesses and giving the hiring manager a glimpse of the real you, so he or she can make an informed decision about how well you’d do in the job.
